I finally got the courage to replace my head gasket and get the head checked out. Everything looks pretty decent on the block. I need suggestions on the best way of cleaning the block surface and the intake and exhaust surfaces.
Also I got a little bit of sludge and coolant in the cylinders when taking the head off, best way of cleaning that out.
And finally best ways of cleaning the buildup in the intake manifold.
Trying to find some things to clean and prep while the head is at the machine shop, thanks for the help guys.

I use a BRASS Wire wheel in a drill, or brush, for the intake some brake/ EFI safe cleaner. If you are brave enough to remove everything off the intake manifold itself, most machine shops will hot tank small items for few dollars.

I attacked mine with a wet/dry shop vac.. got it all out, then I had the bright idea of using it on the water channels too.. didn't get it all out, but did a flush later on anyway. One thing, I had my oil pan off while doing the head,(rms replace) and noticed that some of the coolant got past the rings and made it to the floor. I'd suggest you pour some motor oil on the pistons and let 'em soak til you get your head back.. then change the oil, but you were already gonna do that

if you have air tools , specifically a die grinder. Buy some roll lock discs. They will remove gasket material fast and not scar up the block or head surface.
