Default Having fun trying to change oil filter adaptor o rings...

So yesterday I tried to change my oil filter adaptor orings and that thing is on there good. I got the t60 socket bit and pressed it out so I could turn it with a standard box end wrench and even hooked another wrench on to it. tried w/ a cheater pipe too and couldn't get anywhere near enough leverage on it.

Anyone got any tips or tricks they used, cause this thing is pouring oil.

My new idea is to disconnect the motor mount on that side and jack the engine up so I have clearance to get a socket with my huge breaker bar on it. Has anyone had to do this before?

Have you tried it with a warm engine?

Have you tried the two wrench method when the motor is hot?? that's what I had to do on my 96.
It would not move, took it for a little drive ,got it to to break free. let the motor cool, then did the job.

I did it on a semi warm engine after a 5 minute ride to get the torx bit. i'll try it on a hot engine before I do that

Okay so got home from work which is about a 20 minute drive and let it idle another 20 just to get it nice a warm. I found another beefier cheater pipe about 2.5 ft long and wide enough to fit right snug over the wrench. Still nothing moved. I was putting so much torque on the pipe i was starting to bend the wrench.

I cant believe how stuck on there this piece of crap is!

Hot engine, 3'+ piece of pipe over a single wrench on the T60. Thats all you need.

Try short quick burst of tourqe. Also try tightening it slightly to break it free, then loosen it.

I bought a 6 point wrench just to be sure I made good contact and didn't strip anything. I have to say though that mine came off rather easily.

After much frustration, I finally got mine loose with a long serpentine belt tool. The serpentine belt tool came with some really shallow sockets. I used one of the sockets to turn the T60 torx bit. The socket really helped with the clearance and the serpentine belt tool gave me enough leverage to break it loose. Hope that helps someone.

I should probably add that I borrowed the serpentine belt tool from Autozone.

The Serpentine Belt tool with an Auto Zone T60 socket is what I use. I go at it from below. Sometimes a cheater bar on the serpentine belt tool is helpful.

I have GOOD torx bits, and even then I couldn't get a good leverage on that miserable sum***** !
So, out came the 18 inch aluminum pipe wrench. ( it's light & easy to handle)
Got a good grip on the edge of that bolt & popped it loose. But even un-screwing that bolt all the way out was a PIA. O-rings were old, but still had a grip on that bolt...
Another stupid design idea on a Jeep...
