Everyone kept telling me to "Get a Meter",and "Test Your Parts" and "Its the best $10. you can spend". Well I got a Meter (it was actually $15 at O'Reillys), but I don't know a darn thing about electrical and using the meter. (I know, I know, but I just haven't been exposed to much auto electrical.) I can change a ceiling fan and use a stove but I'm lost with this meter. The web site associated with this particular meter EQUUS.COM was useless. All it had was a download of the 1 page manual that came with the meter. So any help, websites, videos or just tell me the baisics would be appreciated.

The problems that I bought the meter for are:
1990 Laredo that when idling rpms will drop and engine will bogg down and sometimes stop. When restarting sometimes it dosen't want to start, just turns over and over.
1996 Classic that the heat/AC Blower doesn't work. I replaced the blower and the thumb switch.

I have both a digital meter (as shown above) and analog meter (as shown below). I usually prefer the analog meter, because I often want to see the needle motion as opposed to a value. When I need an absolute value, I use the digital meter. It is good to have both, and I may be old school, but my favorite meter is like this one:

Besides DC Volts on the 20 scale, ohm's is another handy one. The symbol looks like headphones. The lowest scale might be 200. You use that to see how well something is connected. It measures the resistance of the connection or component. If you simply put the leads together you will see 1 or zero ohms. If you put one on clean metal on your engine, and the other on clean metal on your chasey, you will get a reading of how well they are connected. Or on say a coil, there is a spec on the resistance for the windings from + to -. There's a start! Oh...if there are three holes you probably want the bottom two. The one "A" or Amps you probably won't use much. Although if it will do up to 10 amps you could see what small things are drawing. (you run the power THROUGH it to measure Amps. (lights, radio)).
And; You might have a selection in ohm's/resistance that makes a beep when you have a connection.
For the car alligator clips are way more handy than probes, for me anyway. You can always clip on a needle or something.

When I bought my meter, a week ago, I also bought this book.
I'm only on chapter 3 but I'm having fun and learning lots.
