To start off my 91 cherokee hasn't been started for about 8 months. I have checked each spark plug for spark. I have drained and refilled the tank with new gas and know from draining the tank there is fuel pressure. I have used starting fluid to try to get it to start with no success. It sounds like it wants to take but never comes close to firing. If you have any thing let me know.
Thanks DK

So I guess the coil wasn't producing enough power $30 and the jeep runs like a dream. Not bad for a free jeep with 200k and hasn't run in 8 months. Now the new bad. Washed the engine. Started at the car wash got home shut it down now it won't start. Wierd but when you crank the engine it blows out the intake manifold. When you crank the engine it goes around, but when i put my foot down and open the butterfly it will try to start but it sounds like when the engine goes its firing backwards. It was late last night and with the wind chill down around 30 I figured I would let it air out and try today but haven't yet untill after work. Any ideas what may make the engine want to fire back wards. Could the starter relay have shorted and its turning the engine backwards. Iknow that diesels will rotate backwards but have not seen a gas engine do it. Thanks guys you've been a great help.

Any time you wash the engine cover the TPS it is not water proof and will mess up 9 times out of ten.
If you're replacing the coil have fun its a ^%##^#%$*%*&%&#$^%#$%(($#^^&$&^%$& and some more. Ok so the jeep ran great for a day and then I went out this morning....... It started and ran for about 10 seconds and then it shut off. It wouldn't re-start so I opened the hood and jiggled the sensor connectors (CPS, TPS) and tried again. It starts horay. And then it shuts off. It is almost like the fuel is being cut off. The fuel pump works and the filter is good. It sounds like the way the cps and tps work are by cutting fuel or allowing it to flow. So which one would be causing this problem?
Thanks guys
Thanks guys
OKay so still can only get the Jeep to run for about 10-15 seconds and then she dies. She starts up easy and runs nice untill she dies. There is no spike like it is a fuel problem so I have deduced it to electric. But what could it be? I have heard of Arching from the a/c unit but none of my wires seem to close enough. I cant figure out what the problem is. Once the jeep shuts off it can be hard to restart and will not stay running as long on the restarts, usually about 4-5 secs.
Thanks for any input guys I appriciate it, and an undenominational Happy Holidays!

OKay so now after a 2 hour ordeal of cussing and throwing things I have a new CPS and am driving my jeep like a three year old, you know making the engine sounds and imagining I am actually driving. So that makes a new coil a new cps new plugs new wires new dist cap new rotor new gas new filter. It dies without a spike if I can get it to start. So what would allow spark some times but not allways? Really think here because I am past the stupid stuff by a long shot (last comment in hopes of it being something stupid because I thought I was past them all).
Thanks guys

Don't think that Stryker knew that. You are understood by the people who read your posts alot. But it is a little harder for the average reader that doesn't know about you Go5.3.

I have not read this whole thread but have you looked into the fuelpump relay? If you have then I suggest that you purchase an invaluable tool which is the fuel pressure gauge. It uses the schrader valve on the fuel rail and can better determine if a loss of fuel pressure or an electrical problem is the cause of the Jeep dying after a few seconds of running.
