Im new to forums so I thought I would give this a shot, but my '96 cherokee classic's hatch wont open. It has one of those button-like latches and the button wont go in and the key wont turn in it. Any help would be appreciated!

 

I would start by trying to lube up the lock cylinder and latch. Maybe use white lithium grease in the spray can. Shoot some into the lock and crawl into the back and try to get some into the latch best you can. Just don't break the key off in the lock by turning too hard!

 

It's a common problem.. Go inside the hatch and use a screwdriver to release the latch.. Pull the latch and lock mechanism off and clean them very well.
