Default Hatch question

I discovered why the previous owner decided to leave the huge box with two 12" subs and 1000 watt JBL amp in the hatch, the hatch wont open.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this situation.

climb in and pull the plastic trim panel loose from inside the hatch door.....not easy, screws hold it around the glass and where the inside pull handle is. i jammed my hand forearm in from the bottom of the window and felt around for the release mechanism and got it open.

turns out it was a disconnected plastic thingy between the outside handle and the actual latch. 2 min fix with the hatch open and the trim removed.

scraped my arm up pretty good.!!

Also it may or may not help, but behind the rear bumper you should be able to get at the bottom bolts for the pin that the latch uses (at least that is how it is on my 93... a lot may have changed). Maybe if you take the bolts out you can get enough play to at least the the hatch open to work on it.

yup I had the same problem. had my son hold the button down, then i got in the back and kicked it open. lock set was all froze up. just took some lithium grease in a can and some creative prying now it is freed up and works smooth.

My 93 you gotta have the key, which is just about ground completely flat from use, in the perfect spot to get any of the doors to open so try jiggling and partially pushed in or whatever. Might just need to find the sweet spot.
