My 89 laredo rear hatch wouldn't open so i got in there to see if i could find the issue. Here is a pic (below). The lock cylinder is not attached to anything (obviously why I couldn't get it to unlock) but there appeard to be a rubber bump stop in a white cup that the lock pushes against, it doesn't look like it is supposed to be there, It seems wrong.

Can anyone help me figure this one out, or can someone take pictures of a working one so that I can see how the lock is supposed to be attached.

No it doesn't the mechanism is completely different. On the 89 there wasn't a handle just a push button. Thank you for post though!

 

i wish i could help you... I dont have a diagram of the 96 and prior hatch mechanism... best bet is google, or go the JY and look at a working one
