Hatch door wont shut all the way

i have a 1990 jeep cherokee.
the rear hatch rattles down roads and doesnt shut very tight.
ive adjusted the striking pin, latch, and hinges but i still cant seem to get it closer to the body. i know its been wrecked before because when i was doing body work on it i saw the old bondo. i dont think this matters.

there is a 1/4" gap below the rain gutters to the hatch on both sides, and above the taillight there is also a 1/4" gap on both sides.

if someone could please measure their door, im not sure if mine is the way its supposed to be or not.

thats not right

you my have moved the latch pin in to much
and now it wont let the hatch close enough for the latch to close all the way

actually

i also drill out the rivets on the latch part of the door took it all apart and adjusted it. drilled new holes closer to the front, put new ritevts and i shut closer but still not all the way
