my hatch lock does not work, i tryed messing with it today for about 15 minutes just it wont lock, any ideas?

 

Assumeing the key does not work and the electric lock has failed, disassembly is required. From the inside, remove the 8 screws holding the plastic on. 4 are above the glass the other 4 (2 each side) may be difficult to get to with the gate shut. Snap off the panel. The snaps may have to be replaced since they frequently no longer hold after removal. Most Checker, Napa or the like have replacements. If the plastic does not come off just pull it back enough to get an arm behind the panel. The idea is to get behind the plastic just enough to get an arm to the linkage. The locking cylinder in located to the right (passenger) side of center and at the bottom of the door. There is a linkage from the cylinder to the gate handle. Manually slide the linkage to the left (driver side). It now should open from the exterior.

it opens, just it wont lock at all.

a cop once told me that locks were made to keep the innocent people out.
