Tempting?
I've got HIDS on my E30 and they are amazing, but that car came with projector headlights as standard. Has anyone tried HID with the standard Jeep lights? Are there any differences between the US and UK spec lights?
I'm looking at putting them on a 1996 XJ.

Well in my experience (two whole kits!) they all seem to come from the same factory in China anyway....
I reckon it might be time to give one a try, mebbe next month

there are Chinese, japenese and german kits for sale on E-bay...my kit has a 5 year warranty.
The important thing to consider when buying Hids is ballast Construction and where you have to ship to for warranty. and the warranty length.

Personally have no experience with converting to HID myself, but I have read online that you run a risk of melting your wiring when do this, especially with the ultra high output HID's. Apparently they require a good deal more power than a sealed lamp and factory wiring can't handle the load according to some sources.
Might switch myself here one day when have extra cash laying around, but will definitely look for a quality kit and not use the super brite HID's.
GOOD LUCK!!!

There is one other risk. This info comes from two local shops. The higher you go in wattage the more you run the risk of melting your new housings. Many of them are plastic.

My balasts consume only 35watts...the bulbs that came with my H4 houseings were 55W
Hids consume Less watts and produce less heat than a standard Halogen bulb.

That's 90 watts total. Think average sealed beam lamp is 50-55 watts. So, question is, is the factory wiring sufficient enough to carry a load close to double what it was designed for.
I always thought they didn't require as much juice as well, and by themselves they don't. If you just used the conversion kit with the new housings it's probably fine. But if you also get one of the superbrite HID bulb upgrade kits with ballasts, then you have to add the ballast wattage requirement as well. I guess that's when you run into issues.
Anyway, if/when I upgrade mine, I plan on just using the conversion kit with standard halogen bulb just to be on safe side. Still increases light output considerably, just won't be a able to see 1/2 mile ahead or blind oncomers like you would with the super brites. LOL

HID lighting doesn't produce half the heat halogen does, and maybe 30% less wattage, BUT an issue with your housings... HID ballasts are longer that halogen bulbs, make sure your headlight housings have enough clearance ! Also, the cheap eBay housings look nice but put out a chity light pattern!
