Default has anyone removed their decals....

hi ya'll,

anyone on the forum, ever take out their pinstripes, decal and emblems off their jeep by using the tool below:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=65057

i did a search on the cherokee forum and found 1 thread about pinstripe removal. i went and tried the goo gone as recommended. but that seems to work when the emblem is gone and all that's left on the car is the actual old glue. but what if i wanted to take out pinstripes and not having to result to using a razor blade (& possibly chipping or messing up the paint) will the tool on the link provided above work? has anyone used it?

tnx for your time.

that scares the crap outa me. im a detailer. when we take stripes off we hace a rubber wheel that you put in a drill. go down to your local auto paint supplier and they should have on usuall 15 or 20 bucks. works great. use a little goo gone once u get them off and it will be perfect.o and be careful not to keep the wheel in one place to long cause it can burn your clear coat

Or just use a hair dryer/ blow dryer to heat them up and peel them off. Use your goo gone to remove the residue.

quote=jiffy;273224]hi ya'll,

Regaurding the tool from the link you posted:

Uses heat to easily remove decals, pin stripes, stripping tape, stickers and more.
  • Plugs into any 110 volt outlet
  • Uses ordinary scraper razor blades
  • Heated blade won't blister paint like a heat gun
  • Comes with two blades and a stand
It states that it "uses ordinary scraper razor blades"

I sure wouldn't use it - it WILL damage the paint!

As previosly posted, I'd try the hair drier (heat gun if you have one) trick first then use the goo gone to remove the residue. If that doesn't work try the rubber wheel, I have used it in the past and it does work great - just keep it moving along the stripe/decals cause it does heat up the area fast!

quick question...if and when i do get the heat gun, do i just place that over the moldings and pinstripe. and then it would soften up the glue correct?

taking your jeep into a body shop and having them use their "eraser" tool on your decals will cost you $30. To fix burnt clear coat or deep scratches is much more. Just let the body guy do it. Or get the right tool that a detail shop would use. Like the one that one of the first posts mentioned (the detail guy)

Thats what Ive always done, heat gun works wonders and a whole lot quicker than a blower dryer, they cut out before it gets the decal/sticker warm enough

get a plastic razor blade. heat the emblem. and it should peel off. then use the wheel on the drill to remove the rest. or use the goo be gone. this will work good the the moulding too. just did mine and had no problems.

I had good luck with a ceramic heater. got much hotter than a blow dryer thus making the job easier.

I bought an eraser wheel at my local paint store.

I haven't had time to try it yet.

I'll be sure to keep it moving.
