Default Hard starting

My newly accquired 2001 Sport (170,000 miles) is hard to start. Sometimes it doesn't start in 20 seconds of cranking, but upon cranking again it will start right up. It has a remote starting device installed, but doesn't seem to work. The remote start does crank it; just for a few seconds, then twice again after a 20-30 second interval.
I have a new battery and the starter/silinoid seems to work fine, so it has plenty of cranking power (at least in warm weather).
It runs fine both at low and highway speeds and gets about 19 mph on the highway. It does idle a little rough, but is much better after adding some Sea Foam.
Could it be something with the remote start, and if so how do I disconnect it. I don't really need this.
I'm not a mechanic, but can do some maintenance items. Suggestions?

Try spraying some starter fluid in the throttle body while you crank the engine. If it starts to fire you're are looking at a fuel issue.
