Having an issue with my 01 Cherokee. I doesn't want to start right away. Other corks are as follows:
1. If sets for a few days, starts right up.
2. If the temperature drops it starts right up (first start of the day only).
3. Black residue at tail pipe.
4. Back fires, but not often (only 3 times to date)
5. Bad fuel economy
6. Sluggish, not peppy like the 4.0 liter can be.
7. Power lose up hills
8. Occasionally a rough idle, but goes away.
9. Throwing code EVAP small leak (yes I replaced the gas cap)
10. Threw a MAP sensor code, replaced map sensor and went away.

I'm a newbie to this forum and my 01 Cherokee. It has 130,000 miles on it. Dealership also told me Fuel Pump had been replaced by them. Please any advise would be great.

 

Not an expert, but check the catalytic converter. SOME of the symptoms sound like it COULD be. Replaced mine somewhere between 100k and 200k miles but don't remember when exactly. Ever get a check engine light or fail to go into O/D? Mine gave a couple transmissions codes according to the guy that checked it?? Ended up being the cat.

 

I have a check engine light, only for an evap leak though, and it always goes into Over Drive. I'm not sure my symptoms are symptoms of a bad cat...I won't rule it out though.. thank You
