I started hearing this about a week before I changed out my head gasket and I cannot figure out what it could be. can anyone lead me in the right direction? BTW sorry about the bad quality of the video but if you listen at about :23 sec you can hear a knocking sort of sound. its coming from the back of the engine bay. lol I hope its an easy fix

oh and at idle it does get louder and quieter every so often, sometimes I cant even hear it (thank you flowmaster!) but it really is a bad noise

 

wazzzz uppppp its really hard to pin point it with out being there did you ly under it and check if the noise is any louder from that aera eliminate what its not

 

honestly I cant pinpoint it. its just from the back of the engine near the 5th or 6th cylinder. but like I said it was making this sound before I did the Head gasket and I checked the cylinder walls and they were fine (no maring) so I dont think its anything that can cause me to rebuild the engine.

It would be so much easier if I had a stethiscope (however you spell it)

 

cut a pc of garden hose or heater hose abut 3 or 4 feet long you get the same results start searching

but in all honesty (if you have delt with this) would piston slap be a constant noise or could it go in and out (loud, quiet)?

 

 

never really delt with piston slap probs motors ive chenged or rebuit were blown i would think it would be constant though and would in crease with rpms
