hack n tap vs. sye?
All I have ever heard is that the SYE is much better. Hack n tap is a cheaper method to achieve somehwhat of the same effect. You know the saying "you get what you pay for", this applies to comparing an SYE to a hack n tap. This is all my opinon of course... Just going by what I have read and heard. I plan on doing a SYE soon when I get more lift.

Thanks for posting this thread krkx93! I am doing the same research now and am also interested in what people think about the two. Also how do you like your RC lift? I am thinking about getting a 6.5" kit from them in the near future.

well the 3 in. rc is a big difference from the 6.5 in. lift. mine only came with coils shocks and an aal. no control arms are anything. but i love it! just wish i wouldve got the 4.5 kit 3 just wasnt quite high enough. rides real smooth on and off road and i actually get pretty decent articulation from it

Basically the hack and tap, YOU cut the stock t-case out put shaft down. Then you are going to drill and tap a hole to bolt the flange too. On the SYE you get a new shaft. Most manufacturers claim they are stronger. they do require disassembly and reassembly.. this can be done in the truck, but either way it is a PITA.
So to sum it up.. if you have the skills and cash and recommend a sye, but if times are tight, or you have limited skills do the hack n tap.

beware with the hack n tap you have to make a strait and balanced cut and drill in the right spot or you will get bad vibrations. i thought about doing it but i dont feel cofident enough so i am just gonna get a slip yoke eliminator, measure for a drive shaft and get one make, or i might even be able to use a front drive shaft off a YJ cause it is pretty close in length

I've been running the Hack and tap with 5.5" lift with 33's, I haven't had any issues and it is an easy install. Just follow the directions. I torture my Jeep everyday and havent had one problem. If you dont want to spend the cash on a SYE and don't go wheeling everyday I would think the Hack and tap would be fine.
