I don't think so. I know that the stock DS on a 5 speed is a different length than that of an auto, and i'm pretty sure it's longer on the five speed.
If memory serves, I believe you can use a front DS out of a ZJ 4.0 instead.

Take the short collar off the tranny and smooth the surfaces of both sides. Call the maker of the HnT and ask them for a new seal. After you have both sides smooth then put a bead of RTV around the sealing surface after installing the new seal. Re-assemble everything and re-fill with Dextron III and tilt it so the HnT is at a low point and check for leaks. If you got the two surfaces flat then the RTV will have filled the imperfections and you can re-install your 242.
ookay... so it looks like the steel collar that spins with the otput shaft is damaged and so is the aluminum casing that it spins on. so where can i get a new steel collar for this thing? i should prob get a new seal too....

Hi just double checking here i have a 89 XJ with a 242 transfercase. if i do the hack-n-tap can i use the front driveshaft from another 89 XJ . Im only asking because im putting in a 4.5" lift in my 89 XJ and i have a compleate donor 1989 XJ with a good front drive shaft this may save me bucks i only do trail riding no heavy 4 wheeling.
