I just bought the eautoworks harness as well as the autopals, and I was also confused about the directions, especially what to do with the male plug. The directions say, "For whom of using 4 bulb square type low beam in case of using 4 bulb square type low beam, please use only one of the attached connector to the head lamp (use only one connector) as show in the following figure, the relay wiring can be directly connected to the lamp"

Which makes no sense at all.

So, what I gather from this post is that the male plug should be inserted into the female plug of the existing passenger side harness, which formerly went directly into the sealed beam.

One question I still have -- once you are done with this installation, is there any part of the existing harness that is taken out and discarded, or does it stay intact? Does the driver side plug just stay disconnected, but on the Jeep?

Correct, the male plug of the new eautoworks harness plugs into the existing harness on the passenger side.

And you are also correct, the old harness stays in entirely. On the drivers side, I just pushed the existing female plug out of the way to make room for the new one. There's probably a way you can take it out but I didn't bother.

And unfortunately, I didn't get pictures of before and after. I was in a rush to get this done. Definitely a huge difference in visibility though! I'm very happy with it

I just upgraded to the Autopals with a new Eworks harness. I still need to aim them but I ran out of night so that will have to wait till tonight.

My question should be an easy one...

Once I changed the harness and turned the lights on my daytime running lights didn't come on. So, did I screw something up or is this cuz of the new harness? If I leave it the way it is will I have anything to watch for or is it fine just turning the lights on when I want them on?

Sometime soon I am hoping to put some red headlights on the jeep, on a switch, so when I am in camp I don't mess with night vision and what not. Needless to say I would have to override or disable the dtr anyways.

 

If they worked before the harness they should work after. The running lights don't get changed by the harness upgrade, just the headlights.

 

Can anyone tell me the difference between a h2/9003 bulb and a h4 they look the same.

 

The connectors are probably the same.

 

So is it the wattage? I don't see any difference

 

they are essentially the same - connectors, wattage, fit, etc. They are different standards though - 9003 is a US DOT spec, H4 is European spec. All 9003 bulbs satisfy h4 requirements, but not all h4 bulbs satisfy 9003 requirements...make sense?

I've never had a Jeep with DRLs but I assume that they use the low beams of the headlights? They won't work with a relay harness unless the voltage provided is enough to pull in the relays in which case they will be on full brightness. Personally I would just disable them unless you live in Canuckistan where I understand that they are required; not sure how to deal with it in that case.

 

Well... since I want to run without them how would I go about disabling the day time running lights the right way?? or can I just run the jeep as is without causing problems?

 

I did the harness upgrade and put new headlight housings and bulbs in my Cherokee today, man what a difference. Only took me about an hour to do it.

 

It's pretty easy, isn't it? What bulbs/housings did you decide on?

 

If they aren't functioning with the harness the way it is then you should be fine. I would pull the DRL fuse just to be sure.
