Default Guages drop to zero and come back

Hey guys, occasionally while driving my guages turn off. I'm assuming this is just a loose wire as when I smack the top of the dash they come back to life. Is it a pain to open that area up and make sure my connections in there are solid? Thanks.

No, it's fairly easy. Search for cluster removal and you'll find some writeups. IIRC, you need to pull the trim around the radio, steering column, and the top of the footwell, if not one other. There are two connectors that plug into the back of the cluster. They don't snap in but instead are held by a plastic bracket behind the cluster, and the connection can become loose. I ended up shimming the two connectors in their brackets so they fit tighter.
