Default GRRR! Fuse blowing for radio/door light

Hey guys,

Ok, I've got a stupid, annoying problem here with my 95' Cherokee.

My fuse blew out that controls my radio and door light. I replaced it, and not 2 miles down the road, it blew again.

W T F ?!!?

This is terribly annoying since music is a big part of me. LOL.

Can anyone PLEASE help me out here? What should I be looking for? I replaced the fuse again, and it still won't work. I have no idea what the heck is going on.

Please help me out!

Thanks,
Adrian

If the fuse is blowing it means you have a short to ground or too much of a load on the circuit. Fuses do not wear out, they blow when there is a problem. Did you just install an aftermarket stereo in this rig?

I installed it about 2 months ago. Its been working fine up until now. Do you think that could be the problem?

You probably have a power wire for either one shorting to ground somewhere.

How did you connect the wires? If you say you twisted them together and taped over the twisted ends I will smack you.

No no no, of course not. I connected it properly, and everything still looks fine.

But I have taken it to two different places to have them find the short, and both places found nothing. They put in new fuses and now it works fine for the time being. I don't understand.

I replaced my starter and battery over the weekend. Not sure if that has anything to do with it?

You could have 1 of 2 problems.
1) you have a powerwire shorting on a ground or part of the uni-body.
2) your new stereo draws more amps than your stock one.
The solution to number 1 is to look at your stereo wires and make sure their not shorting and also take all of your door jam light switches out at look at the wire connections there too.
The solution to number 2 is to replace the fuse with a larger amperage fuse to compensate for the higher current draw. Try putting a 35-40 amp fuse in just to test and if it blows then you know you have a short somewhere.
