So I was putting my jeep back together after installing a new distributor and accidentally touched the negative post to the radiator support and it sparked slightly, which I thought was strange so I grabbed a test light, ground it out and touched the negative post and sure as poop it lite up!!! Crazy thing is it gets brighter when you turn on the lights. Anyone run into something like this before? Also I only have power going to the fuse block under the hood.
So, here's a slight update. I had a OBD link plugged into the data port, when it's plugged in my dome lights aren't on and my test light is lite slightly, but if I turn on my head lights my test light gets brighter but still no overhead dome lights or the beeping that let you know that you left your lights on. Now if I pull the OBD link the test light is just slightly glowing, but you can see it, and my dome light are on until I turn my headlights on then they go out and my test light lights up, and still no beeping telling me my headlights are on.
Well, yeah if you're substituting your test light for the ground strap it's gonna light up. It's the equivalent of having a high resistance ground connection. Connect the grounds up properly and move on.
