Default Grinding on takeoff... and idle?

So when I take off in the jeep, there's always been this grinding noise on takeoff. Never really gets worse, but it's enough for a passenger to say "What the !@#$ was that?" I figured it was U-joint or hub related so I really didn't care since all that was being replaced anyway. But then it started happening at idle. Its rare and not quite as loud, but it happens from time to time (idle and 100% stopped).

The best way to describe it would be the sound of a car being crushed very very slowly. I can't really think of a whole lot of things that would cause this with the truck stopped...? Any ideas? Whether it's cold or warm doesn't really seem to affect it any.

Still might need more clarification on the noise! Is it a crunching, squealing or popping? If its doin it at idle I guess that narrows it to the engine, tranny and possibly TC? Any other info?

It's not your fan shroud is it? I've broken two now and they make a god awful noise when they hit the fan. Double check it just incase!

it can be the fan shroud, or a bad motor mount/tranny mount that made the motor move under take off and make the noise and may be it broke completly that the fan is hitting something.

Good call... I didn't even think of the mounts!

Fan shround is plausible. Definitely will try removing that for a minute to see if it makes a difference. This jeep had some obvious front end body work done to it. It looks pretty but the hood is set way to far back, the "brow" between the hood and the grille is loose and the grille itself only has maybe half the screws holding it in place that it should. Maybe the shroud is just not sitting in the right spot or maybe a bad motor mount throws the motor up too far... or maybe both.

Thanks. Wouldn't have even thought of that.
