Whatsup i have a 93cherokee after taking it in the woods i noticed a grinding and clunking noise from the front passenger side not sure what it is when i put it in 4 wheel my steering gets harder and when i turn the wheel it jus wants to fly back any help is appreciated
Also, your unit bearings could very possibly be seized to the hubs, although there is a pretty easy way to pop them out if they are. I'll do it tomorrow and take a picture to show you how.
I'll say this much: On a good day, with no trouble it could take you as little as an hour to do both sides.(might as well while you're at it)
On a bad day, and having to fight with getting the unit bearing out, and then replacing the u-joint I'd say you should prepare for it to take up to 5 hours.

well, with everything I had to do today I forgot. However I found a write-up that includes what Im talking about. No torch, BFH or other destructive tools needed.
Here's the write up: http://myjeeptj.com/2008/07/06/unit-...t-in-a-dana-30
the specific method I was talking about for removing the unit bearings is related to this picture: http://myjeeptj.com/wpg2?g2_itemId=11468
That link also shows the best method I have seen to date for removing unit bearings.
Far better than an air-hammer, BFH or a torch. Best part is if you're just changing the u-joints it won't ruin your unit bearings.
FYI, when you own a Jeep Anti-seize is your best friend. a little bit goes a long way, all you need is the thinest of coatings and it will save you TONs of hassle down the road. and to boot a bottle is only like $6 at auto-zone.
I would highly suggest using it on EVERY bolt you take off to replace the u-joints along with the inner knuckle that the bearing seats to.
