Grinding in 4 low
My 4x4 works great but if I try to put it into low it'll grind like crazy and won't let me put it in. I had a friend look at it he didn't know exactly the problem but he had seen it before and told me to put it in neutral and slam it into 4 low and it worked great but I just don't like the fact of slamming it in if I want to use it so I never use it but now I want to figure out why it grinds

With your transmission in neutral, how fast were you going when you shifted into 4L?
My grinds only when I'm not moving. Manual says it's fine in small amounts (think being stuck and unable to move, shifting into 4L to help), but keep it to a minimum.
Best way is do exactly how cruiser outlined in his post. I've never had mine grind when I do it this way. Just get going less than 10 mph, shift transmission into neutral and go into 4H on the T-case lever. When your speedo shows somewhere around ~5mph move the transfer lever into N and then into 4L. I've gotten good at this transition over time and you eventually make it into a fluid motion and done in just a couple seconds. When I first started trying to do it, I had a hell of a time. Took me a good 3 tries before I got it right

Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. The suggestions in CAPS are mine.
"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I LET OFF THE GAS, THROW THE LEVER, TAP THE GAS AND LET OFF.
4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".
TO SHIFT OUT OF 4L, SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED, SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE LEVER TO 2H, THEN THE TRANS TO D IF YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC, OR INTO FIRST GEAR WITH A MANUAL, AND CONTINUE ON.
