problem shifting transfer case into gears
I replaced transfer case chain a few months back. i tested the 4wd afterwards and it all shiffted in and out all gears fine. I recently attempted to shift it into 4wd and this is what happened. I have a 5 spd manual btw. I pulled up on shifter handle to 4 hi and it pulled up very easily like nothing was engaging at all. Usually there is a little bit of resistance going from 2wd to 4 hi but there was none. No indicator light came on. Going from 4hi to 4 lo position the "part time" light came on but "low range" didnt. Any suggestions or opinions?
Thanks

Have a look at the linkage while somebody is going through the different "settings". Might show you if it's actually shifting/moving properly.
Check your TC fluid level.

There is no "low range" light.
Watch this video, and be sure you're using the correct shifting procedure outlined below.
Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. The suggestions in ITALICS are mine.
"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I let off the gas, throw the lever, and then tap the gas and let off.
4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".
To shift out of 4L, shift the transmission into neutral with the vehicle stopped, shift the transfer case lever to 2H, then to D if you have an automatic, or into first gear with a manual, and continue on.

There shouldn't be any resistance at all. Shift on the fly is a beautiful thing. Even shifting to 4lo is really smooth if used often. Sometimes the first time in a while its a lil tight

Figured out problem. I have a transfer case drop on jeep and the pivot arm connected to the trans popped out. Gonna put a drop bracket on it and reinstall.
Thanks for replies.
