The Great Battery Debate
So I just got done reading this thread:
https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/battery-size-61149/
I'm going to be buying a new battery in the next week or so. Based on the above thread I don't think I'm going to be buying an Optima because a) $150 seems a little unreasonable and b) there is evidence of deteriorating quality of Optima under their new ownership.
I'm leaning towards the Interstate Megatron MT-34.
Any thoughts/opinions?

I'm a tech at Firestone and those are highly overrated and not high quality. But if the CCA drops below the level described on the battery in a certain time, they can be warrantied out. I'm personally looking into a Odeyssey

You know almost all car battery companies make an gel filled battery, Working for nappa we did carry the optima, which every time we turned around they were being returned, So we started pushing the Exide brand and not nearly as many problems after that..

Megatron Plus batteries are good, MTP-58 is the XJ's.
I run MTP's in all my cars/trucks.
Everstart Maxx has good reviews as well, everyone who buys one swears by it

look into the
Super Start Extreme
Part Number: 58EXT
UPC: 83996013605
580 CCA
84 Month P/R Warr 3yr Free Replacement
Cold Cranking Amps: 580
Cranking Amps: 720
Reserve Capacity: 85
I run it on my jeep. It takes the abuse of a sound system, lights, A/C-heater just fine. I have had No problems and I returned one (had been drained to many times from a bad ground) about 2 years into the warranty and it was replaced free of charge no hassle. They threw it on the machine, it tested bad, looked up my info and they handed me a new one

i needed a battery a few years ago and wallmart was the only place opened. i'm glad i did, it seems to be a great battery (it should be it was no cheaper then any name brand bats) i'm going on 2 or 3 years now and i can't remember it ever dying on me, its cranks the starter perfect everytime. and there has been several instances where i've left my lights on for hours and it still started. so i'm pretty much sold on wallmart batteries.

A battery is a Battery, there are Only 3 companys that make batterys, half of them are all the same. Johnson Controls Inc, makes Optima, Diehards, Interstate and WalMart batteries and they are the same battery just different case and label. If you want a good battery, look at the stats and warrenty, You can't beat having a good warrenty, if you are Offroading I would suggest an AGM style battery to handle the abuse, if you are just tooling around a Walfart battery will work just fine.

I have a regular everstart. it's been in the jeep ever since i got it about 5 years ago, and was inside it when i got it (no idea how old it is). I have never had a problem with it dying/leaving me stranded EVER, even when my alternator crapped the bed while wheeling (got me out to the road and 60 miles to an auto parts store, and still started the truck fine afterwards).
