Default Grade 8 metric

Information listed is based on www.factorychryslerparts.com and their schematics.
I am replacing front a rear shocks, lower rear control arm bushings and two rear sway bar bushings [nearest the rear brake drum on each side] and I am trying to assemble the replacements bolts.
For front shocks the web site above states that the lower bolt to the shock is a hex flanged head bolt M8 x 1.25 X 30 and the hex flange lock nut is M8 x 1.25
For rear shocks no dimension is given but after reading a few write ups on the forum, the dimension 5/16 x 1.0 x 18 was given and said quantity needed was 8 with 4 each washers and stop nuts
For bushing to the rear of the lower control arm size given on the web site was M14 x 2.0 x 110 and then also M14 x 2.0 x 120 with hex flange bolt being M 14 x 2.0

Well around me no one carries grade 8 in metric that I have been able to find and I am pretty sure the dealer will not be cheap.
Looking for thoughts here from the forum.
Given size in the write up for upper rear shock bolts was not metric but everything else I have found via the above site states metric.

This is the link to the front suspension diagram and parts list

Control arm:

and rear suspension:

I was planning on replacing bolts as my thought was 21 year old stuff is 21 yr old stuff and new would be better and stronger.
Also concerned in breaking upper rear shock bolts and then having no way to drive to get replacement bolts.

So where do I get grade 8 metric stuff and for the control arms and front shocks does it have to be metric?
Yes I am still new, be kind.
Thanks

It may not be the cheapest option, but probably still cheaper than the dealer: McMaster-Carr
They have an awesome selection and fast shipping. I get most of my high-grade nuts and bolts from them.

OK, I figured out that SAE grade 8 is supposed to be equivalent to metric class 10.9.

Now choices are zinc, yellow zinc or steel?

They all rust equally well.

Yellow = Cadmium
The better choice.

The same strength rating for metric is 10.9 they're actually a little tougher then 8s and you know theyre 10.9 because it says it on the bolt head you want to find the right thread pitch so you should take the bolt your replacing so they could measure the pitch for you and give it to you in metric

Correct, grade 8 is roughly equal to metric grade 10.9, while grade 5 corresponds to metric 9.8.

I do have one close.
The replacement for the lower control arms was listed as M14 x 2.0 x 110 or 120 but Fastenal does not list that on their web site. I am going to call the store in the AM to see what they have in stock.

Thanks for all the assistance.

That's because "Grade 8" is SAE ("inch") hardware. ISO ("metric") uses "property classes," which uses numeric digits to mark carbon steel screws. Common ISO property classes are:
4.8 (roughly SAE 2)
8.8 (roughly SAE 5)
9.8 (slightly stronger than 8.8 probably SAE 5.5-5.7-ish.)
10.9 (roughly SAE7)
12.9 (between SAE8 and SAE L9)

Suspension screws are probably going to be 10.9 or 12.9, and the number will usually be stamped into the head (and directly readable.) Get the same property class, but get good screws (not Chinese crap.)

If you have a tractor supply house near you, they're usually a good place to go. You can also check for a local Fastenal.

For mail-order, McMaster is a good source - but they're spendy, and their catalogue can be difficult. I've been using MSC Direct for common stuff for years (www.mscdirect.com,) their online catalogue is easier, and their print catalogue is free for the asking. They carry Unbrako and Holo-Krome (both excellent domestic brands,) and you can get unbranded domestic or unbranded imports, and it's fairly easy to avoid cheap Chinese crap in their catalogue.

Fastenal's website only lists 14m x 2.0 flange bolts up to 60mm long. The OE bolts are 14m x 2.0 x 120 Flange bolts. Regular tower bolts they have in the correct size but they are just as expensive as the OE flange bolts from the dealership. I know because I just spent $75 on 6 bolts & 2 nuts from the dealership 2 weeks ago when I was replacing my leaf springs. 9.70 per bolt, 6.41 per nut. they were 130mm long so maybe nock off 40 cents.

Better to get the correct flange bolts than rely on a bolt/washer/nut combo IMHO.

I called Fastenal. If they are like most companies not everything is listed online.

The stock bolts are a 9.8 I believe.

I just pulled all my old stuff and they were stamped with 9.8 on all the heads.

Based on my experience, anything that is suspected of being Chinese can be safely considered to be counterfeit. Based on recent experience, I see no reason to change my opinion.

Just about anything else is good - but Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong are all excellent (for Pacific Rim,) and you can't usually go wrong with English, German, Polish, Hungarian, or Czech (for Europe.)

I still consider SPS/Unbrako or Holo-Krome to be pretty much the ne plus ultra of threaded fasteners, tho.
