well like mine was all mess up, sliping gears and dripping all over, I was a spring break at Isabela( a beach town here in PR) where my mom's family is from, and I got talking with a relative, and he said, "I have a 87 xj 4.0L auto 4x4 I dont use, I will sell you my tranny and transfer case for 160 no problem",, so I decided to buy it and next saturday I will go back and pick it up on my uncle's pick up and hopefuly install it as soon as posible...

look at the rear while your there. Some 87's had D44 rears.

 

it does not have a rear any more, bc he used it as a part supplyer for his wrangler project...

not all aw4's are the same. hope it works out for you though.

 

I made sure it worked,, a friend of mine checked, and I have a 4 speed auto, 95 4x4 4.0L,, and the 87 is the same so it should work,,,

 

ok now im kinda worried, bc some people say it will work and other no.. Im worried it wont,, the thing the mechanic said that the electrical plugs may not be the same,, can this be fix or changed???

 

if the connectors arent the same then its likely the tranny isnt controlled the same. if you know someone who has access to alldata they will be able to check quickly for you
