well i finally got my jeep back 200$ later. it was studering and stalling and eventually died and left me stranded 20 miles from home! so i started thumbing it and eventually got picked up by my x girlfriend and her dad...lol akward ride home but they brought me all the way to my house. turns out the distrubutor was bad so new one of them and cap and button and it runs good but it still has a skip in it and it stalled 3 times the nite i got it back. I'm stumped!! the cps checks out fine, new plugs, wires, coil, and the above stuff and still nothing. any help on this would be apreciated. I'm am still driving it as of now because my 460 is a bit much on gas. thanks

Go out and look at it running in complete darkness. If it is jumping spark across the wires then it may be the cause of your "skipping" and that is the poor mans way to diagnose the problem.

I'll try that bluexj. it only does it once in a while. its not really a skip though... its just acts like its falling on its face then when i floor it it comes out of it. i was thinking it may be the tps because it acts like it is running low on fuel. i brought it back to the shop and we hooked it up to a code reader/video game console.. haha and no codes. this code reader shows the gas pettle in like a streaming line graph and when he put the peddle to the floor and let off a couple times it was showing an inconsistant pattern every so often... thanks

kilbrethj what year is your Jeep? I assume it is a 4.0L equipped Jeep. Fill in the area on your profile page so no one has to ask in the future. I am asking because the computers were different in different years and that would help to diagnose your stumble.

Definately do that. I'm a mechanic and two of the guys I work with had a helluva time trying to get that thing to spit codes out to figure out what's wrong. Funny thing, it seems like it runs perfect as soon as that scanner gets close...

i cannot figure this one out!!! I HATE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!! OR PROBLEMS THAT ACT LIKE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH lol there... now that that is out of my system i think i am just going to bring it to the stealership!! let them mess with it for a bit! i got a little cash floating around in my rainy day fund witch was going to go to my lift rims and tires but i think i should worry more about turning them bigger tires right now!! haha sound like a plan?
If there are no codes the dealership will start shotgunning and just swaping parts, you can do that yourself. THe dealerships only work off of codes, not many true mechanics left out there.
It really sounds like a fueling issue.
Easy way to check get one of those instant read IR thermometers. You will want to read the heat of each of your exhaust tubes as close to your engine as possible. IF you are having a fueling issue such as a faulty injector you will have a cold pipe vs the other good injectors. Injectors are just coils, they can go to electonic saturation and not respond fast enough to fuel properly.
