hey guys,
so i'm looking at new tires. i currently run firestone destination ATs 30"s. my uncle works for goodyear so he's helping me out a bit on the purchase. i had settled on the Goodyear RT/S but i got this email from my uncle this morning:

"I had a thought. I was reading that some Cherokees from the 90’s run 31x1050x15’s, a size up from yours. Goodyear has a great, new technology tire in that size, if it would work. It would look really ‘bad’ as long as the wheels and ft end can handle the extra weight. I have attached the specs for this size. Thoughts??"

is this the silent armor tire?
do you think it would work on my jeep? any advice/insights would be much appreciated as i need to get back to my uncle soon about the tires.

i have a '97 jeep cherokee sport. its stock.

At stock height you will have to adjust the steering stops and do a bit of flare trimming to keep the 31" tire from rubbing.. If you plan to go off road you will also need 2-3" of lift.

i don't plan to do much if any off roading, this is my daily driver.
so I'll for sure need trimming and adjustment of steering stops?

You can't run 31" with out either lifting or cutting the fenders or you will get tire rub. the largest you can go at stock height would be a 235x75-15. You might get a 30x9.50-15 if all of the springs are in perfect shape and not warn.

i had 30x9.5 bfg at on stock wheels on a clapped out260k xj from 1991, it only rubbed at full lock while being flexed out.

30's are fine for a DD

2" budget lift and those 31's will be fine. You will rub at full cut, but adjusting your steering stops and you'll be in the clear.

recommendations on a 1.5" or 2" budget boost? I'll order it online as i don't have the time to piece things from the junkyard.

Wrong, it can be done. I ran BOTH 30" and 31" at stock height. Just adjusted the steering stop to keep the tires off the LCAs and nipped the flares a bit. Only rub I got was OFF ROAD and occasionaly when entering my steep driveway.

If going the BB route do spacers and shackles or spacers and a S100 bastard pack, cost <$100. If you can go $200-300 id go with new springs front and rear.

Or you could put P235/75R15s on it with no modifications and be done and happy.

That's still bigger than the factory maximum.
