Default Go down on your new EGR valve!

Yes! I repeat. Go down on your new EGR valve.

I'll bet the Pro's have been secretly doing it for years.

I bought a new EGR valve and whipped it in...sort of.

Actually I put in a whole bunch of stuff getting ready for a smog test. It's happened before that my efforts resulted in turning a fine running car into one that wouldn't idle. Usually in the past I had stirred up a vacuum leak somewhere.

I spent the rest of the day sucking and blowing on vacuum lines. (Did find one eaten away.)

Anyway still rough. Whipped out the new EGR valve and compared with my old one. There are two holes in the EGR valve for the 90 Jeep Cherokee 4.0. One is round and the other sort of oval. If I blew on the round hole on the old one the valve was closed and blocked off. On the bad new one it was wide open.

Man what a bummer. I could have checked in when I first got it and saved a lot of trouble.
