2.6L V6 was a GM motor. A POS motor that eats bearings very quickly.

Well as Frank stated that engine was sourced from Detroit through GM and was really just marginal on power. The gearing was good but the powerband was much too high for the intended use of a Jeep. Bearings and premature ring wear as I recall was the reason thar engine was discontinued.
BTW that is pre-Renix years too.

Don't know for sure as I was not into Cherokees in 1984 but someone else may be your best bet for that question.

"engine, transmission and drivetrain all from GM"

Not hardly....

Engine... yep.. it was a crappy cast-off from the S-10.
Transmission... Nope.
Drivetrain.. Nope.

Transmission was either a 904 if an auto or an AX-5 if a manual. There were also a limited number of T-5 5-speeds out there.

The transfer case was most likely an NP 207, the NP 228 was used in the full-time models.

Axles... Dana 30 Front and Dana 35 rear..

Where did you find this data Whowey? I looked on Yahoo and came up empty but you seemed to have this at your fingertips. Did you by chance have one of these old rocks?

Rusty's has had in the past and does now have a 5.5" lift..

That GM V6 is only good as a boat anchor...

As for that info it can be found at wilkipedia also..
