you must have slammed it on a rock. an out of balance driveshaft couldn't bend that output shaft.

you'll need to split the case to replace that output shaft. so as said, time for a slip yoke eliminator.

case is simple to remove, you may need a 14mm stubby wrench to get the two top nuts/bolts out. they are actually studs, so if you're lucky, just the nuts will come off. either way tho, it's easy enough.

Ditto on the Craigslist.com suggestion. Usually, (especially) if someone wrecked one, they'll pull the salvagable parts before they scrap it. Usually the guys who do that are into working on Jeeps and you might be able to get the whole setup from the guy.
I.E. shaft, t-case, u joints....
etc, etc.

Well he quoted me $400 for a full rebuild of the tc, I'm leaning towards that rather than trying to do it myself. Maybe if it was the summer and I wasnt using it as a dd I might give it a go, but I havent done much work to this thing and I really need it for transportation. I've checked craigslist and havent been able to come up with much, a few 2wd and some high mileage 4wd, I think I would rather know that everything is new and in good working condition with a 12k or 1yr warrenty with it rather than spend a bunch of my own time trying to figure it out and then still have someting that I an unsure about the condition of. I have seen a few tc's on ebay but they are at least 200 and then I would have to put it in myself, im not above working on my own car, but it sucks without a shop and no heater in the garage. Thanks for the advice and help, but I think this ones goin to the mechanic

Yeah, the guy is definitely giving me a deal on it, but I bought the beast for 1300...and ive already put in a new water pump (200) and the work the shop already did (350) and another 400 on top of that and im gettin close to what I paid for it. I guess it was just a bad buy on my part. If I would have figured 2,000+ into my budget I sure wouldnt have this thing. I just hate paying someone money to work on my truck when im sure if I put a little elbow grease into it I could do it myself. Theres a np231 with the sye already on it on ebay for like 250 with 80 for shipping but thats gonna be close to the 400 anyway. I guess this is just the joys of owning a jeep...and I havent even taken it off road yet!! . Maybe I will just give him the 400 to do it, then I have a brand new tc. Merry Christmas to me. Most of the tc's that I see on craigslist are around 150 anyway, and I dont know what other parts I may need to replace at the same time to put it in wether from breaking or just worn out crap parts. Are there any write ups on replacing the tc here? I have a chilton so im gonna study that for a while but sometimes those books really suck. Also, I have a 5 speed Im not sure what kind but would that make it any easier/harder?

that outer shaft just slides out if you disconnect the driveshaft from the axle, id say go to pick n pull and just find any jeep with the same tcase and pull the shaft out of it and throw it in yours, id be willing to bet that your tcase doesnt need to be rebuilt bro.
