Default Getting Hot

Sorry for askin so many stupid questions...I just rebuilt my engine with a 4.7 stroker kit, and it's great. The only problem is it runs hot!! It seems like it runs cooler if I turn the vent on high. Rather than killing myself with the hot air, i want to rig up some kind of hood scoop or hood vent that will work good and look good. Good or bad idea? Anyone else done this? Thanks guys.

Vents are good. They allow hot air to run out while the XJ is moving, sometimes lowering temps up to 40*F under the hood. I plan on installing some soon.

What radiator are you running, 2 row 3 row, aluminium, is it new or old, what temp thermostat, new or old exhaust, have you replaced the cat? Did your old motor melt down or just wear out? Lots of things will affect the temperature that any motor will run- let alone a stroker. Check with frank z , he's been there done that!!!

Crap, all these crazy questions...my Radiator is a 2 row i think...its a stock radiator so its pretty old, brand new exhaust, older cat, no idea on the thermostat, sorry, and my old motor just got old and wore out, never really went out. Thanks!

I feel like FrankZ has been everywhere lol. Everytime I post a problem, his solution works. I salute FrankZ.

I've ran into the same problem yet I've narrowed it down to my AUX fan. It turns on if I disconnect the front temp sensor but I don't like that idea. I replaced the sensor but it won't kick on when needed and as I live in the city I keep it cool with out running the heat. Any ideas?

A stock motor will run warm if the stock cooling system isn't completely up to the task. A stroker needs extra cooling. Hood vents would help, but might not cure the issue. If your radiator is stock, it certainly doesn't owe you anything, let alone with a stroker. I would flush the system out, put in a new 195* thermostat, and replace the waterpump with a flowkooler high flow waterpump. Next put in a CSF 3 row radiator. With these upgrades your temp shouldn't even go over 210 degrees in 90+ degree heat.

Sounds like either that coolant temp sensor is bad, or the relay for the fan is bad.

Check fan clutch too!

...or taurus fan, my aux fan never kicks on even with just the low taurus setting

I have hood vents and still get up to 220 in heavy traffic.

Don't know how much the vents helped because I installed them before I installed a temp gauge so I don't know how hot it got to without vents.
