Question General questions Cherokee Chief

Hello, my first post! I am currently downsizing vehicles (2003 Dodge 3500 diesel) to a Cherokee Chief 1984, 2.5 liter, automatic, 4 door. I am familiar with mechanics and some electrical. What are the biggest weak spots on the Jeeps? It runs and shifts well so far. The floor boards are rusted through in multiple spots, what vendor do you all use for floor pans? What technical books do you use? Any sources would be appreciated. I am going through the forum to educate me. My other Jeep is a M38A1 which is in operable and that's it.

What do you mean pretty rare Jeep? While it is nothing special in my opinion, it will fill the duty I need it for at this time (gravel road, farming, 4x4). I am trying to plant the idea in my wifes head to let me restore at a later date...when money is not tight. First thing will be floor boards before I lose something through the floor.

The Cherokee Chief was mainly a Amc Option package 2nd down from top of the line in 85... not to many are left.. they also did not make to many... so in the Jeep world they are consider some what rare...I have never seen one newer the 86 they are a good truck you just have to keep on the matience... here is a website for specs on it
http://jeephorizons.com/tech/xjstockspecs.html

if you need any help just make a thread we can help

I asked for pictures because I was curious if it still had the org sticker package on it... it will make a good farm truck.. good luck with it..

It is 4x4 and had to borrow it in the last big snow (24"). It drove like my 1953 M38A1. I little loose in terms of tracking, but it did better than my Dodge truck. Most people would not be happy going from a 600hp diesel to a wopping 105 hp gasser. I am though! I will miss my hp's from time to time, but that darn diesel was a maintenance hog ($3,000 for injectors, $1,200 for clutch in two weeks time). I had electrical problems, wheels bearings that go out ($600. per bearing), u joints...bottom line everything is expensive on that thing.
