Default general maintenance

Hi, I have a jeep cherokee xj 1997, and yesterday my jeep made a loud noise as if something came apart and when i pressed the gas, i heard a loud scrapping noise so i stopped to the side. Later, it wouldnt reverse, and i pressed the gas hard to reverse but it had clunk noises and the jeep made noises as if something was hitting against another thing. im not sure if the transmission i got is bad ? Any info will help. Thanks!

That's not general maintenance. That's catastrophic failure. Take it to a shop.

Without being there my guess would be the transmission, or, if its 4wd, the transfer case. But they are only guesses. Like said, take it to a shop. Preferably by rollback to prevent any further damage. It will have to be looked over and gone thru to figure out what happened, and why. Until then, you cant put a price on it. Too many variables. Good luck.

Sounds like major flexplate/torque converter bolt issues. Or Flywheel clutch issues if it is a manual trans.
