Default Gears?

I have a 94x j 4x4 with the 4.0 and a 5speed. I bought the jeep for cheap, PO said the t case chain was stretched and it jumped links. Well it does jump links but I was under it replacing hub bearing and I noticed there was two different gear ratios

What is a good gear to run?

Front d30 3.73
Rear c8.25 3.07

Right now it's all stock I can't imagine why it has two different gear ratios

Don't put it in 4 wheel drive til you get matching ratios under there. The tcase won't like different gears in the diffs.

Looks like the PO swapped out the front axle or gears and hadn't got around to the rear axle yet.

3.73 would be ideal for a set of 32" tires, after you lift it to accommodate that size tire of course.

My plan is 32 and a lift but I can't find a matching ratio without changing both ring and pinion

Gotta agree with DieselD on this one, unless you want even taller gears.

3.73's for a 8.25" are going to be tough to find.

I'm goin to look into that. That could kill two birds with one stone. Fix the gear difference and possibly a rear t lock

First, did you verify what the ratio is,or are you just going by what the tag said?

Double check.

You can pull the cover, find the last two numbers stamped in the ring gear & divide the larger number by the smaller one.

Not to mention disc brakes and a stronger axle. Lol Just a bit more work than swapping in a 8.25 IF you find one.

Welding on leaf spring perches and shock mounts. Getting a driveshaft flange adapter. Plumbing up the brakes and doing something for the parking brake cables.
