Default gear oil
I just switched my axles and before I did I heard from a friend that gear oil woild drain out. None did. Is this bad?

you mean you pulled the axle shalfs out? .. gear oil will come out but its usually only excess from the diffs.. you can check the diff level when your done and see if it needs adding..
i pulled my dana 30 shafts out and nothing seeped out..
