I have a 91 cherokee and there's a fair bit of oil leaking, from the valve cover and from the part that the oil filter connects to (not sure what it's called but it bolts to the block and then comes out about 90 degrees and the oil filter attaches to it) Are the gaskets difficult to replace for someone who is not mechanical, should I pay someone to do it or attempt it? Thanks for any help.

jeeps are oil leak monsters! its fairly easy to change the gaskets. im going to be doing my valve cover gasket and check out the oil filter leak tomorrow. another common leak is the rear main seal. some say its easy but ehhh id beg to differ. id pick up the valve cover gasket from your local parts store they are fairly cheap. iirc it was like $15-20. then id degrease the motor and start it up and see where else it leaks. good luck!
its the oil housing. mine was leaking and just replaced along with the valve cover. i am not handy nor do i really have the time to do such work so i took it to a jeep dealer...
They banged me for the following amounts
Valve cover part:$44.35 Labor: $200
Oil Housing parts (seal, adapters, etc..) $87 Labor: $200
new oil change was a steal $19.95 lol
Good Luck!

Mine leaks the same! I am also not very mechanically sound, although I have learned a lot over the past couple months of owning my first XJ
. If you decide to try this yourself, please reply and let us know how difficult of a job it was for you. Cause I'm gunna need to replace this sometime in the near future and I'd like to know how it was for someone in kinda the same boat as me.

I know someone who has built a few xj projects and he will do it for $40 an hour so that's pretty reasonable. I'm going to see if he minds me hanging around and it will help for any future gasket replacements.
