Had a quick question I wanted to ask around about as far as mileage goes. I'm getting around 6-8 mpg in town and around 19-20 highway. I was wondering if anyone else is getting this low in town? I have a 98 Cherokee, 31s, 213K on it, everything else stock. Just thought that seemed kinda on the low end but wanted to ask around to see and if it is, what might be a good place to start to maybe work on that a little bit. I know gas mileage isn't what you get a Cherokee for, lol, but just wanted to ask around.

Well it has the electronic thing overhead that tells the temp, dte, etc, and I look at that and do the math myself and it's pretty close to the numbers I posted. I have about a 240 mile drive, nearly all highway non-stop to and from school and on that drive I avg. around 20 mpg, but during the week when driving around town and campus, it's around 6-8 mpg.

im getting like 12 mpg avg since mt lift then 31 muds :S seems like its gotten worse lately its got something going out on it. take ur avg of those readings and u got 14 so thats nb, if urs is stock on stock tires a tune up might net you 16avg. cap rotor, sparks, fuel filter, clean all the parts on the intake with carb spray (ICV, The butterfly valve, TPS) replace air filter if its dirty. Personally I use seafoam (plenty of threads here and everywhere on it plus google and their homepage) I suck 1/2-3/4 of a can directly into the intake manifold every 10k or so miles and use Lucus fuel treatment its the ONLY fuel additive i use, it lubricates valve seats and cleans lines/injectors.

I think it has a lot to do with those 31" tires. In city driving, your engine is fighting to get them rolling, then stopping again, which lowers MPGs. On the highway their large diameter lowers the engines RPMs, allowing you to get more MPGs at a steady speed.

Yea, def. not a speed demon, lol. I try and baby it through town to get whatever I can out of it. Glad to know that it is in the ball park for most as far as town driving goes.
