Default Gas fumes in Cabin - HELP!

I was just about to sell my XJ and all of a sudden i get gas fumes in the cabin? i can't smell anything under the hood, it seems to be coming from the back. I'm suspecting a plugged or broken gas tank vent tube.
anyone have any experiences here? do i have to pull the gas tank off to get at it? thanks

thats not a good sign, um i am not sure about this but maybe check your fuel filter clamps and hoses, because they are not hardlines they tend to deteriorate over time and can leak a bit. maybe your fuel pump as well

any check engine lights? it might be that your purge solenoid is stuck open. i replaced mine and my fume issue went away.

My guess would be a o-ring (s) along the fuel injector rail- possibly the last one or two because of the strong smell inside.

Is there a way to see the fuel tank vent hose WITHOUT taking off the gas tank?

Turn the key to on and activate the fuel pump, then crawl under and check for a leak. Also check for dampness at the fuel injectors and fuel rail.

What year? Is it only when running or all the time?

x2 (without the engine running, if you didn't get that). Even if there is a fuel leak it shouldn't be coming into the cabin unless you have a hole/rusted thru spot in the floor board, missing drain plug, bad door/rear hatch seal, etc.

Theres a possibility that his fuel fill hose has a crack/tear and he's getting some residual odor through the interior panel.

Might want to check into that as well.

mine was doing that and it was the first and last injector o-rings. looked fine but if i wiggled the injectors, fuel would spray all over hte intake. i geuss it was leaking enough to create a smell when it was evaporating. either way, new number 31 o-rings from lowes and i am good to go. a pack of 10 was like 1.70 or something and i know they work because i used them on my bmw when i swapped in ford 19lb injectors and it is still running strong

check the hoses and connections on your evap canister. Mine had the same prob until I found a split in the small hose that runs from the fuel tank to the canister. Just had to cut 1/2 inch off and used hose clamp. If not, autozone tried to sell me pressure regulator before I found the split hose.
