i'm planning on building one. buy a 97-98 XJ and strip it down, do a fresh build. crate axles, new wiring. all that...
what are we talking about? get a 4bt, a nice turbo kit, call up my man Banks for a control module, get a bell housing adapter, stick with the stock tranny and transfer case. maybe a nice large radiator, large tranny cooler.
i figured about 10-12 grand should be a good estimate. have a fresh rig. i wounder if i can get about 250 hp and 350 ft-lb. torque out of the motor and still get decent gas mileage. maybe 22-25 mpg.

Default 4bt

If you are looking for contact a local heavy equipment dealer that works on sky trac's and they might have one that is trashed but with a good engine. Most of them have the 4bt cummins in them. Since the start of the diesel craze many people have discovered that if they can't fit the 12valve cummins or 24 valve they can easy use the 4bt because of it's small size and it's ability to be modified to high output levels. There is a mud rail that is running a 4bt that is in the area of 800 hp with out propane or NOS. Another person is running a 4bt powered danger ranger drag truck that is pushing 1200 hp with a little propane. The 2.8L VM Motori diesel that was in the liberty also is another one to look at. I think that Banks makes a stand alone computer for it now. Our XJ's came stock with a 2.4L VM in Europe. Those from Europe are nearly drop in last I knew. I think you might need the ECM but it should run the same everything else as us in the states.
