full throttle stumble..
Ok I just recently bought a 96 cherokee. It has the straight 6 in it and I love the car. I noticed that from time to time the check engine light comes on, but it seems to drive fine. Well today was the first time I floored it since I bought it and it stumbles bad. Normal driving is fine, half throttle is a slight stumbling, full throttle is a bad stumble. It looses power, starts pooping out the exhaust, etc. now if I lift on the throttle it goes away. Does anyone have a clue what I should start looking for ?

Sounds to me like it's going lean, pointing to a fuel supply problem. (the popping you describe makes me think that). Possible culprits would be fuel filter, or fuel pump.
It's also possible that the ignition system is weak - under load, it takes more voltage to get the spark to jump the plug gap. Check the plugs, wires, and distributor cap.
On mine, I had a problem where it would bog down really badly at high RPM, but I confirmed it was going rich, not lean (I have an OBD interface to my computer, I watched the O2 sensor signal). In my case it was a plugged catalytic converter - but I didn't have popping, it would just bog down.
