Default fuel vapors from TB

first i noticed jeep would sputter some crusing at 1500 rpm thought trans at first. then when stopped jeep would almost shut is self off almost like the enigine flooded with fuel. then after turning key off i can smell gas real bad and when restarting it has a real hard time idilg smooth. so after runing it and turning it off i removed air filter parts from tb. id open the throttle and look inside and very strong fuel smell and visable white/blue smoke (fuel vapors?) would roll out of the tb.

so do i have a internal fuel leak with an injector (703s) or am i not burning fuel in a cylnder some how??

Fuel shouldn't be up there. Something's causing it to back up.

If it was a leaky injector the excess fuel would still be down by the injector, not "up top."

Remove the air cleaner, start it, shine a flashlight across the top of the TB. Snap the throttle quickly open and closed. Look for a mist of fuel coming out the top of the TB.

KEEP YOUR FACE AWAY IN CASE OF BACKFIRE!!!!!!!!

If there is a mist, called ("standoff") it means an exhaust valve is not opening properly, causing pressure to be released back into the intake.

Could also be a leaking intake valve, check compression, but that bad is usually is accompanied by backfire..

Check the valve train to make sure everything looks fine under the valve cover.
Measure the lift of exhaust valves to see if it's a flat cam.

Could also be a very loose timing chain, check it.

Let us know on this thread what you find.

alright so before i statred i could smell a little gas in the intake i assume for last night shut off. so this morring it stared fine maybe a little hint of unburnt gas in the exhaust. running no smell or vapors shut it down after a min and nothing. drove 15mins and looked again, there was a little smell and vapor in intake. drove another 30min stating missing like it was starved/flood was gas. put it in N quick to rpm wne to 800 or so but was fluxuating 500rpm up and down back in D and samething parked it let it idle it smoothed right out after 30sec or so. drove 5 more min and looked in intake again no smell no vapors. had someone rev it shut it off and on again while i looked at exhaust and only on restart there was very lettle blueish smoke..honestly it coulda been moisture. i didnt remove valve cover have to do that sunday. thats what i got! what do u think?

Of course you snapped the throttle when you shined the light across it did it. Other wise it's meaningless.

Running rich?
Codes?
Poor mileage recently?
How old is the O2 sensor?

From YOUR post #1:
""""id open the throttle and look inside and very strong fuel smell and visable white/blue smoke (fuel vapors?) would roll out of the tb."""""

But now you don't? Why?

I think the smelling and seeing the vapors is unrelated to the driveability symptoms.

How old are the plugs? wires?
Smoke test for vacuum leaks?
