Fuel Tank Advice
Last time I filled up my tank, my car smelt like gas for a few days afterwards. I assumed it was due to a portion of my tailpipe missing (replacement on a FedEx truck now). Today, I filled it up again, drove back to campus, and again, smelled gas. I got underneath it, and found some liquid on the top half of the gas tank, on the side. Wiped a little off, it felt oily and smelled like gas.
Is this most likely a hole in the top of the tank, a bad seal someplace, just fuel coming out of a vent, etc.? I'm completely unfamiliar with the fuel tanks.
Also, I've priced around a bit. I found this one for under $50 at partstrain. Is there any reason I should be wary of this, when it is less than half the price of other tanks? Here are the ones I found.
Thanks for your help,
-Sean

I am not sure if this advise or a suggestion but if you cannot find it either with an inspection mirror or just by looking for it I would have a shop do a smoke test on it,it could be from your seal or hoses,or fill neck,I had a leak on my return line at the tank and did not know until it failed smog, smoke test found it right away.

Read the print in the spot right below the tank, it's for a Cherokee without fuel injection, which doesn't exist. If you ordered it already, what it their exchange policy.
Okay, I'll stay away from that then. I didn't order it yet. I have an appointment at a garage tomorrow to have it checked out, I couldn't find or feel any holes myself.

I think he maybe meant that the 4.0 was always fuel injected?
Anywho, the $72 shipping would be enough to scare me away from partstrain. Your best bet is probably going to be the ole Vatozone. I just got one from there a little over a month ago for $134+tax. I ordered it on a Wednesday and it was there on Friday. It was a Spectra Premium tank.

Try to check if your floor pan has holes in it, mine did and it smelled like gas as well.
Could also be the vapor vent hoses.
Where are you located? I'm currently tearing a 91 to make a trailer and have a lot of parts to get rid of
the po had the tank changed I'd guess abput a year ago
