Default fuel sending unit question

my fuel gauge never drops below 3/8 of a tank....even when my wife and i ran out of fuel lol! now i need to pull the sending unit and check it. on a side note it started leaking fuel at the fuel lines exiting the tank also. how does that plug come out. it looks like a quarter turn but im not sure.

It's got a lock ring you have to unscrew to remove the hanger and pump assembly

youre gonna need a hammer and screwdriver/chisel/punch to spin the lock ring to take it out and put it back also fyi its a pain in the butt to put it back in under the vehicle but its pretty straight forward have fun

got it pulled out and found the leak. i had to re-solder the plate around the tube. it is a pain to get back in. i found a way to mak it easier though. i ground 2 of the notches longer. in fact one longer than the other. i started the first notch rotated it to the next point started it then rotated it and started the last. it worked like a charm. i didnt fix the sending unit yet. i had to buy the pump with it grrrrr!!! oh well it will get here tomorrow

I had a similar problem with mine. I tore apart my sending unit, and cleaned the copper windings with a pencil eraser and re-arched the contact to ensure the two were making a solid connection. also I made sure that there was no fuel in the float that would cause it not to read correctly. so far it's been working flawless. might be worth a try if it works and you can return the new pump.
