Default Fuel pump shopping!

So i have been looking around for a new fuel pump assembly and was curious as to anyones thoughts on the bosch 67658. I am hoping that a new unit will help alleviate some of my long crank issues! likewise i was planning on throwing in some 784's in my 01' XJ and then insulating them with fiberglass pipe insulation, hoping both will get rid of the long crank/p303 code that has plagued me since day 1! Thanks in advance!

Bosh is absolutely the best in the business when it comes to XJ fuel pumps.

BUT....I'd recommend that you install an entire "fuel pump assembly" while you have the gas tank down. That part number you listed may be for just the fuel pump part of the assembly. The assembly is the entire shooting match consisting of pump/regulator/filter/sending unit. Spring for the assembly; money well spent.

There are two check valves on the fuel pump assembly that can be responsible for fuel pressure leakdown. One is on the regulator (primary), the other is on the fuel pump (secondary). I'd hate to see you install the fuel pump only and still see fuel pressure leakdown and the associated extended crank times because your pressure loss was being caused by the check valve on the regulator.

If one component is starting to fail, other failures are not far behind. I don't like doing things twice.....

Get the entire assembly.

From what I have seen, both on rock auto and crazy as it seems Amazon I believe it is the entire assembly itself. Now is the secondary check valve on the assembly as well? And im not sure if another one of my issues is associated with the bleed down in fuel pressure or possibly a leaky injector (hense swapping the injectors) bu t upon cranking I get a bluish fuel smelling smoke? Any thoughts?

Just be darn sure that you are getting the entire assembly. The pump itself would probably sell for $125. The entire assembly is going to be around $350 (give or take).

To recap what I said in my earlier post about the location of the check valves. The main one is on the regulator, the secondary one is on the fuel pump. Either or both can fail. When the one on the regulator fails, usually you'll have a pretty rapid fuel pressure leakdown. When the one on the fuel pump fails, pressure leakdown can be slower.

It can be confusing as some places show a picture of the entire fuel pump assembly, but ship you only the fuel pump. Do your homework and email them for confirmation before ordering. And price should be a dead giveaway. You aren't going to get an entire assembly for $125.

I replaced my pump assembly with a carter about 6 months ago from rockauto and its been perfect. Fixed my check valve issues and the car runs a lot better.

It was a lot cheaper then the Bosch but more then the crappy airtex. I heard good things about carter and so far so good.
