Axle U joint questions.
So I've been putting it off but now I have time. But before I go ripping it apart I have a few questions.
1. Do I have to do anything in the pumpkin, like c clips for snap rings?
2. Is it worth the money to buy grease able axle seals?

I'm gonna say no, you won't find c-clips in the diff on the front. I might be wrong there, I'm thinking there are no clips in the front, weather you are pre or post 89-90. (on the rear there I believe there WAS a change) I just did my 90 with command track, the right side. That just has the short axle to the Vac Disco. When I do my left I will need to be much more careful dragging the whole axle out over the seal without messing it up.
Mine, the three hub bolts are 12 point 13MM. Really you want 1/2 inch drive for those. I found the u-joint pressing tougher and harder than the other zillion I did before that. With a mother of a vise, and a little propane torch I needed to "tease" the cups in. (press, then smack, repeat)(or bend the ear). Next time I might put the caps in the freezer first. Mine had been on there a very long time. Just sayen..I found mine tough, and have done more than....a bunch.
I needed to put a fresh edge on my chisel to get after a couple of the inner clips on the caps. The gap was not where I could get at it. I'm pretty sure you could search it, even include my handle. I'm on a road trip, so see you when I see you!
I bent my 3/8 extension a bit popping the hub loose with the power steering. Search! Had I had a helper I might not have bent it.
Search...pirate and 4x4 whoever will have stuff as well as here.

No c-clips in a Dana 30.
Keep one side low to the ground and jack up the other to keep oil from running out of the tube.
Adding Full Circle Clips to your front axles will keep your u-joints in place better than the the OEM clips. You will have to do some grinding to use them though. There are plenty of write-up's on the www about doing it.
Another U-Joint Option to consider:
Alloy X U-joints (760)
Outer Axle Tube Seals are a great upgrade to keep mud, sand, gravel, water, etc out of the tubes. This can increase the life of your inner seals.
Click on either Red or Black
Keep a spare set of Replacement Seals on hand just in case...
