Default Fuel Pump Replacement

My fuel pump went out the other day and I have a almost a full tank of gas. Trying to figure out how to siphon the gas out of the tank so I can pull the pump. I realize that the gas is probably above the pump mount. It's a 91, did they put any grills or anti flip ***** in the filler tube? Really don't want to drop the tank if I don't have to. I know I can install it without dropping it because I practiced pulling one out at the JY.

That sucks, not sure on how to siphon it out. But i replaced a fuel pump without dropping the tank in my old 96 b/c it was on the front side of the tank. Long story short, it sucked really sucked. I recommend dropping the tank

Bigger tank - cool mod when you have it out too

Turns out you can get a siphon in the earlier models. When my 93 died I couldnt get a hose in there. I dont think this will be so bad now that I got a good 10 gallons out of it. Just need to run to harbor freight and get a brass or nylon punch.

I got a siphon into my '94's tank, no problemo. $15 at Advance Auto for the good one with a pump.

Easy as hell. Remove the return hose from the sending unit and suck the fuel out from there with a longer piece of hose.

I changed mine on an 88 with a full tank and didn't syphon any gas. Just had to worry about the fumes being super strong!

Fuel pumps on jeeps are easy, the only hard part is getting the rubber gasket to stay in place while installing the final lock ring.

Haha, usually they are a little smaller than the ring diameter, i just stretch the o-ring a bit so it sits in place..

Easy on an '88 as you have clear access to the pump in the back of gas tank. However it can be a pain in the butt on later XJ's as I found out through experience!

Great thinking Fantic, I should've thought of that. Took me forever to find a friggin brass drift, and didnt even find it, ended up with a punch. About to go do the job now.
