fuel pump
Gotta a problem and need some help.I've got an 89 xj my fuel pump went out, went to napa to get a replacement and got pump and strainer kit pn p74155, the pump is not the same as the one I took out. Mine is a bosch pump and the replacement is a carter, the top part where the connector go is a different shape and the bottom is too big, guess what I need to know is if anybody else has had this problem. Kinda stuck without my toy till I get this figured out. Did take my xj deer hunting this weekend and was pleasantly surprised at the places it will go.

they must have given you the wrong pump..take it back along with your original pump ..they should exchange it for the correct one.

P74057 is the one you want. When I went to my local Napa they said there were 2 possibilities so I bought both the P74155 and the P74057 and returned the one that didn't fit the following day. Hope this helps.

Did some more searching on napa sit and found p74032 and it looks like the one I took out, I tried the other and it would not fit in the tank assembly. Hopefully they can get the pn I need. Thanks for all the help, will post if it all works out.

Update: the fuel pump from napa pn p74302 is a direct replacement for the bosch pump in my 89 cherokee, only took a week and 3 different pumps but now it's in. Bad news is it still isn't running right. When trying to accelerate it acts like it isn't getting fuel, found a vacume hose from the tps that was off put that back on and it helped somewhat. Guess I'll have to do some more looking, just wish the cold weather would stay away. lol

TPS doesn't have a vacuum hose. MAP does up on the firewall.
How is the integrity of all the vacuum lines by the way?
The one from the throttle body to the MAP can't have any cracks, crimps or loose connections or the Jeep will run extremely rich.
Also, if the vac line to your Fuel Pressure Regulator is leaky, it will run rich. Why don't you unplug the vac hose at the FPR and see if there's any gas in there. Shouldn't be.

Thanks for the input, still learning. I replaced alot of vacume lines after removing intake and exhaust to put new frost plugs, will check to see if anymore need replace or came off, also will be reading up on tps and additional fuel system cleaning.

Well I think I found the problem, when putting things back together after my freeze plug ordeal the plastic vacume line to the map sensor was bad. When it was replaced I must have made it too long it was resting on the heat shield and melted, duh, this time when it was replaced I put some sleeving over the line and routed it different. Seems to run alot better will see how the drive to work is tomorrow, lol Thanks for all the help.
