Default Fuel line question

its kind of a long story but what im wondering is can I take the fuel line/tank form my 96 parts xj and put it on my 95? My current tank leaks. how do i know? I tried to fill it all the way and gas started to come out of the tank its self. So i think I want to pull it and because I already have a working tank/pump/lines im wondering if I could just put it on.

Heres why I asked. My 95 has 2 lines. my 96 has 1. thats really the only reason i wonder. im trying to save up for a lift so i dont want to spend any money if I can.

So can i just take the line and stuff i need and put it on my 95? thanks in advanced!

Just use the tank shell and keep your original sending unit/pump. I think they will interchange.

Your 95 is regulated at the rail and needs a return line. Your 96 is regulated on top of the pump, no return necessary. If the openings are different or your lines are shot you could just get a return line and modify the tank or better yet the sending unit mounting plate to accept it.
I put a chevy sending unit in a 1986 Cherokee for a 4.3 vortec I installed and all I did was bend the lines downward to match the Cherokees and used my original retaining ring and it bolted up.

Cool. so if I have all the parts (i actually have every thing but a fuel rail on the 96) i could swap all that out and put it in my 95 no problems? If the sending unit makes it so you dont need a return line will that mess with the computer or anything?

To tell you the truth the fuel line on the 95 got broken. I tried to replace them with the replacement lines... that didnt work. So right now they are jerry rigged together. They dont leak or anything. But because my tanks leakin and I have everything from the 96 im just wondering if this is possible?

So yes or no. If i take all the parts from the 96. I can swap them in for the 95 no problems?

Are you sure its your tank leaking and not just the donut that seals around the pump?

I checked it but im pretty sure Its the tank. Before the fuel lines broke the return line was leakin fuel back into the tank while the engine was running. I just need to know if I take everything from the 96 like the line, pump, tank, rail and what ever else will it connect with my 95 stuff and work? or will the fuel gauge and stuff now work? This is something I really think I need to do.
